About Petworth Lawn Tennis Club
Tucked away in the heart of the West Sussex countryside, Petworth is a picturesque town steeped in history.
Petworth Lawn Tennis Club was founded in 1946/47 at its current site in Sheepdown Drive Petworth following the merger of The Grove Tennis Club with The Petworth Park Lawn Tennis Club.
We pride ourselves in offering a relaxed and friendly environment for everyone to enjoy their tennis. We have people joining the club for many reasons and welcome players of all ages and playing abilities. Not played on grass before? Then Petworth Lawn Tennis Club is the place for you.
Throughout the year, there are many club tournaments that take place and are available for all. These include the men’s singles and doubles, ladies’ singles and doubles and mixed doubles competitions. Also, there are other competitions like the popular ‘Pimms Tournament’ which take place on an annual basis.
Social Tennis for Members
During the summer months, there are social tennis sessions on a Tuesday and Friday evening at 17:30. These are a great way to meet other members and play some great tennis in the wonderfully relaxed atmosphere that we have at Petworth Lawn Tennis Club.
Most weekends throughout the summer, we will play fixtures against other local clubs. The fixtures are mostly at home – as our opponents love to take advantage of the chance to play on our grass courts. There are ladies, men’s and mixed doubles matches, with players rotated to give lots of people the chance of representing the club.
Petworth Lawn Tennis Club has some of the best lawn tennis facilities in the area:
- Two grass courts (play from mid-April to mid-September)
- Two all-weather hard courts
- A large recently re-developed Clubhouse, with table tennis table kitchen changing and showering facilities
- Veranda with seating to view play
- Barbecue area
- Parking for four cars (a convenient lay-by is nearby)
